Turkey offers excellent perspectives for solar companies
Friday, 19 June 2009

Turkey's geographic location renders one of the world's highest solar irradiation and its population of 70 million makes Turkey one of the most populous countries in Europe. Its growing industrialized economy coupled with an increase in living standards has already put upward pressure on Turkey's energy demand.
Its electricity demand currently grows at an annual rate of 7%. This represents a 3,5-fold higher growth rate compared to that of the rest of Europe. The Turkish government has, thus, recently announced plans to increase the feed-in tariffs for renewable power production in order to further decrease its energy import dependency: Turkey is therefore poised to become a fast growing and highly attractive market for solar energy power applications in the near future.
"Turkey's market developments open a range of excellent opportunities that companies, already established in the solar sector or now entering it, can profit from." asserts Nikolai Dobrott of Apricum - the Cleantech Advisory. For solar companies considering getting involved in the Turkish market, a number of market entry opportunities are conceivable: direct product marketing; establishing a local sales office, a strategic partnership or a joint venture; as well as setting up a production site in Turkey.
Established industrial cooperations from Turkey, that plan to diversify into the solar sector also face diverse options: engage in a strategic partnership or joint venture with a solar company, market their existing products to the worldwide solar manufacturers or aquire technology know how and set up their own solar production. These options however, need to be carefully evaluated regarding their strategic advantages for each company. For example: through collaboration with a strategic partner, existing market channels can be used to significantly facilitate a market entry.
