Jesselyn MalimataProject Associate, 2018
Jesselyn’s internship experience:
I started my internship with three goals: 1) to orient myself with how the consulting industry works, 2) to expose myself to various clean technology markets and 3) to be acquainted with experts who can mentor me as I start my career in renewable energy. After six months, I can say that Apricum has helped me in achieving all three goals – and more.
From the very first day, I was acquainted with how projects are handled (e.g., timeline, staffing, etc.). I also greatly improved my “consulting toolkit” (e.g., analysis and problem solving, idea structuring and presentation, accuracy in communication, etc.) through constant feedback from relevant internal and project work. The broad scope of projects I was involved in was unbelievable. At the end of my internship, I had worked on digital energy, energy storage, wind, solar and even niche topics such as the internet of things, marine batteries and mobile PV systems. I was exposed to clients from different countries – ranging from the MENA region to Scandinavia. The most impactful part of the internship though, were the people. It was a pleasure to go to the office every day because I got to work with extremely competent but also very grounded colleagues. There was always a subject expert to answer my questions about any topic.
Overall, Apricum handles project associates very professionally and holds them to high standards. Work load is managed well, feedback is constant and constructive and ideas from interns are encouraged. It is a great experience, especially for junior professionals aiming to build a career in renewable energy and/or consulting.

Before joining Apricum, I had completed another internship in the renewable energy sector; I applied to Apricum to build on this experience and gain some insight into a consultancy firm. During my internship, I had the chance to work on projects covering a wide range of renewable energy and cleantech industries and was, in this way, able to broaden my knowledge and understanding immensely. At the same time, the work at Apricum allowed me to dive deep into the nitty-gritty details of several segments. While I certainly did expect to learn a lot about renewables, I did not expect to work at such a level of detail and depth of analysis as Apricum’s team achieves. Additionally, the diversity of tasks that Apricum assigns to interns is something I would like to highlight, as every day is different at Apricum.
Besides the knowledge I gained, the spectacular team is what made my time at Apricum a great experience. I really enjoyed working in such a stimulating, solution-oriented and thought-provoking working environment. Reflecting back, I can say that the open feedback culture and constantly having your work challenged helped my personal development tremendously. While I am used to working in international teams, the diverse mix of regional and professional backgrounds at Apricum helped me discover and understand new perspectives, not only related to renewable energy or work in general.
All in all, my internship at Apricum has more than affirmed my interest in renewables and has taught me many skills and a variety of tools that I am sure I will benefit from throughout my professional career.

Julian’s internship experience:
I applied for an internship at Apricum, because I have an affinity to consulting and I am highly interested in Apricum’s scope of services. They fit perfectly to the renewable energy focus in my business engineering studies.
I was involved in three projects in different industries. I gained market knowledge in residential photovoltaics in the MENA region, home automation, energy management and virtual power plants in Germany and in four different overseas markets. In most cases the first task was to conduct research on these topics to gain deeper market knowledge and to understand different business models. I then connected this information with the specific customer’s task and prepared the results in a presentation.
I learned a lot about analyzing data, how to interpret market developments, and how to use important consultant tools. I also gained crucial market knowledge in the renewable energy field and was inspired by the new technological trends we investigated in our projects. This experience definitely contributed important work skills and knowledge to my professional development.
I would recommend this internship to anyone who wants to experience consultant work and enjoys detailed analysis. In addition, Apricum provides deep insight into renewable energy topics. I found the team fun to work with and very supportive – there is a very collaborative atmosphere in Apricum’s office. The interns are expected to have good general knowledge in technologies or markets and a strong interest in these fields is needed. You should also be highly motivated personally to experience consultant work, although an internship at Apricum doesn’t mean travelling or living in a hotel. I really enjoyed the opportunity to receive valuable feedback which helped me to better meet the expectations and to improve my work. All in all, I enjoyed my internship at Apricum.
